Senior Staff: John Barth

John Barth
Vice President of Government Affairs

John Barth is Vice President for Government Affairs for American Defense International. Growing up in an Air Force family, he finally put down roots in Kirkland, Washington in high school. He has a B.A. in economics from the University of Washington, a Master of Science (Magna Cum Laude) in finance and resource analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Master of Military Studies (with distinction) from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

Upon his graduation from the University of Washington, John received a commission in the United States Marine Corps. After completion of Financial Management Officer training, he spent his first tour with the operating forces at Camp Pendleton, California, moving quickly into positions of heightened responsibility. He then went to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego and served as a Series Commander, training new recruits. Following his completion of a master's degree at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, John went to work at the Marine Corps Systems Command, learning acquisition processes and providing valuable Life Cycle Cost Estimates and resource analyses to all Marine Corps program managers. After managing one of the largest operational budgets in the Marine Corps in Okinawa, he went back to school at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, subsequently taking on responsibilities as the budget analyst for all Marine Corps ground procurement and research and development programs. In 2001, John was selected to serve a military fellowship in the office of Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona. While serving in Senator Kyl's office, John worked a varied portfolio, including terrorism, intelligence, defense, and clean air and water.

Based on his knowledge of acquisition and defense budget processes, as well as his experience working on a Senate staff, John was chosen to serve as the Secretary of the Navy's personal liaison to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees for all Marine Corps matters. He worked closely with the Professional Staff of the Defense and Military Construction subcommittees for both bodies of Congress, as well as with the personal offices of most Members of those subcommittees. During three and a half years in the budget liaison position, John was the sole conduit for information on all Marine Corps programs, both to and from the Appropriations Committees.

John recently completed twenty years of service in the Marine Corps, and upon his retirement, assumed his current position at ADI in July of 2005.
